Our Mission
As a growing community of Christian faculty and staff
members at the University of Illinois, our Mission is to
encourage and assist one another in the integration of our
Christian faith with our academic and professional lives,
and to promote thoughtful dialogue on campus about the
Christian understanding of the beauty and unity of truth in
Jesus Christ. As followers of Jesus, who value both
truth and relationships, we hope to develop friendships
with all those who are exploring the most profound
questions of the academy.
Our Core Goals
To challenge and strengthen UIUC faculty & staff in
their Christian lives.
To increase the visibility of the Christian worldview on
campus
To attractively communicate to students, faculty, and staff
the reality of a relationship with Jesus Christ.
ICFS Statement of Faith
(though
not everything we believe, of course)
We believe in:
The
uniquely divine inspiration, entire trustworthiness and
authority of the Bible.
The deity of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The necessity and efficacy of the substitutionary death of
Jesus Christ for the redemption of the world, and the
historical fact of his bodily resurrection.
The current presence and power of the Holy Spirit in our
lives.
The expectation of the personal return of the Lord Jesus
Christ.
A salvation that is freely offered to all, and individually
received by personal faith in Jesus Christ.
Commitment
As an organization, we hope to attract Christian faculty
and staff who see the university as a primary area for
their Christian service. Christian faculty and staff
are uniquely positioned to influence the university for
Jesus Christ.
We are the permanent residents of the university in a very
important sense. As Christians, we all must make
decisions about where we can most effectively serve the
cause of Christ, the building of His kingdom. We
believe that Christian faculty and staff should seriously
consider seeing ministry in the university as one of their
primary areas of Christian service.
Many laypeople in our churches can teach Sunday School,
serve on church boards, or be in the choir, but only
Christian faculty and staff have the opportunity personally
to be involved in ministry in the important mission field
of the university.
ICFS seeks to provide support and encouragement to
Christian faculty and staff who want to glorify Christ
through their teaching, research, and service. Illini
Christian Faculty and Staff desires to be a synergistic
ministry, led by a team of Christian faculty and staff, who
are committed to seeing ICFS influence the university for
the glory of God.
Please
read and pray about the calling to commitment above.
In light of that and if you do feel that you are called to
be involved in ICFS, we would like you to give ICFS the
same kind of investment that you would give teaching an
adult Sunday School class in your church, leading a small
group, or serving as an elder or deacon. Each of
these local church responsibilities, of course, requires
different levels of commitment. On average, over the
course of the year, 1-1.5 hrs. a week might be a good
starting suggestion. In busy times of the semester—0
hours! In the summer more hours can be spent making
plans and preparations that can be implemented, with little
time investment, during the school
year.
