Abstract: Researchers around the world are working furiously to map diseases to genes.  Companies will accept a sample of human saliva, sequence bits of  our genome, and then describe what they find in our genetic code.  How predictive is our DNA? How might what we discover there disturb our mental health, our relationships, our faith, and our understanding of our place in the world?  What is it about human beings that deeply desire such prediction? Researchers in the Broad Institute’s Imaging Platform extract information from biological images and are using cell image data for a systems-level view of cellular functions.
